Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Yentl Skewes, the founder, CEO, and Director of Somewhere To Go Foundation.
With almost two decades of lived experience of domestic and family violence and the systems that surround it, I understand how complex and isolating life can be after leaving. While the immediate crisis may pass, the challenges that follow often remain, and too many women are left to navigate that space without ongoing support.
I created Somewhere To Go Foundation because I saw what was missing. A safe space to rebuild. A place where women could find understanding, practical guidance, and community after the doors of crisis services closed.
This work is deeply personal. It comes from lived experience and a strong belief that women deserve dignity, compassion, and support beyond survival. Somewhere To Go Foundation exists so that no woman has to navigate the aftermath of domestic violence alone, and so that the space between leaving and healing is met with care, connection, and hope.
When you walk through our doors, you will be met with compassion, understanding, friendship, kindness, and love.
You do not have to walk this journey alone anymore.
Better together.
Because leaving is only the beginning.
OUR ETHOS
At the heart of Somewhere To Go Foundation is a deep commitment to transforming lives and strengthening community.
We believe healing is a journey, not a moment. Leaving domestic and family violence is only the first step. True recovery requires ongoing support, safety, and connection long after the crisis has passed.
We believe empowerment begins with community. No woman or child should feel isolated in the aftermath of violence. Through connection, understanding, and trauma informed support, survivors are able to rebuild confidence and strength.
We believe every woman and child deserves dignity, safety, and the opportunity for a fresh start. We do not simply offer services. We create a foundation for rebuilding life with hope, stability, and purpose.
OUR VISION
This is just the beginning.
Our vision is a future where every woman and child leaving domestic and family violence has access to a safe, supportive community that empowers them to heal, rebuild, and move forward with strength and dignity.
We envision Somewhere To Go Community Centres operating across Australia, ensuring that no matter where a family lives, there is a place to turn in the space between leaving and healing.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to bridge the gap between leaving and healing.
Somewhere To Go Foundation supports women and children in the post crisis stage of domestic and family violence recovery through community connection and practical support.
We provide guidance through the legal system, food assistance, education and healing programs, and a safe, welcoming coffee space where women and children can belong.
Our mission is to ensure that no woman or child walks this path alone.
